Place:Near Olympia, near Bayer House, Hiranandani, Powai
Service: - 7/10
VFM: - 3/10The only reason I thought of going to Kinnkon was because it is a new place opened up at Hiranandani. Quite honestly, if it wasn't for my Food Mission, I would have never gone to a place called "Kinnkon Roccs". It sounds too wannabe-ish. Anyway, I went, and I regretted.
Food
So while I ordered for my drink, they got some papad on the table. But the papads were broken into multiple pieces. First bad move. Second, the papads looked like they were fried in oil, but didn't really taste as good as fried papads taste. Almost seemed like they just sprinkled it a little with oil, which is so pointless - not tasty and unhealthy is a bad combination!
I'll run right through to the main course. The chicken Aglio Olio pasta did not have enough olive oil. The olives were good though. However, there was a blatant lack of flavor to the entire dish. When I asked for some freshly grounded pepper, I got this pepper crusher which already had semi-crushed pepper in it. That's not freshly ground! Also, the pepper crusher did not work and I had to eventually ask the waiter to open the lid so i could just flick the semi-crushed pepper into my plate. Also ordered for a vegetarian Arabiata pasta which was too sweet. Again, a lot of tomato, but hardly any other flavors. Both dishes could have done with some more sprinkling of basil (I wonder if they'd put any at all). On a good note, the pasta itself was cooked well. Not undercooked or overdone.
Menu variety
The menu variety is extremely comprehensive Almost 20 types of non-vegetarian starters in the continental section itself. Food types include sizzlers, continental mini-meals (I think this term has just been copied from Jugheads), pastas, pizzas and Indian cuisine. Maybe you have better luck with the Indian cuisine?
Service
The waiters are genuinely friendly. However, I did have to ask for a repeat of my drink two times before it actually arrived. It was almost 15 minutes of wait and a drink really shouldn't take so much time to arrive. But overall, the service is decent.
Ambiance
WTF is the theme???? It's unbelievably stupid. There is this stupid sun-like thing on the ceiling which looks like a dead stuffed octopus. The entire cave setup doesn't give anything to the restaurant. They could've as well been a black-walled restaurant without spending all that money on the cave shit and nobody would give a damn. A theme should give you an experience, this one failed to do so.
And it didn't help that there was a table of 10 that was extremely loud. And few people even moved their tabled because of that one group. Not the restaurant's fault of course, but I wonder if this is the kind of crowd they cater to.
And most importantly...I was there after every other guest had left and that's when the rats came out! Yes! Rats! There were at least 3 of them scurrying around the place! I tried to take pictures for the blog, but they were too quick for me! Should I add a separate hygiene parameter to my blog now?
Value for money
Drinks here are cheap compared to some other places. An Antiquity 30 ml will set you back by Rs. 99 + taxes. Food is pretty decently priced too, at Rs. 120-150 + taxes per dish. However, with the quality of food being served, and the entertainment for rats, don't go here.
And in conclusion...
Although you could still go here for a few drinks after work if you work in Hiranandani, I strongly suggest you don't. You'd rather go to Jugheads at Chandivali with a better ambiance and thousand times better food!
