Place: Between Seven Bungalows and Versova, Andheri (W)
It's times like these when I think of god, but only to take his name in vain, like they always say you shouldn't. Hmpf. But with a place like this, I don't think you can control your feelings. We went here after two hours of badminton and one hour of swimming. All we wanted was a place to guzzle some beer and have a quick bite. One of our friends also wanted some music so we tried this place out. We should've known the place was empty at 10:30 pm for a reason.
Food
They serve Oriental (saw a lot of Korean dishes on the menu) and Indian food here.
The Mongolian Chicken, Vegetable Satay and some chicken kabab in yellow marination were good (the satay being extremely nice), but a fish item which had a complicated name was simply badly made fish tandoori. There was no flavor to the dish at all.
In the main course, I had called for bibimbap, which is a Korean dish I was trying for the first time. I should've known better than to try out exotic stuff at a place that mostly caters to the drinking crowd. The dish looked nothing like the images you'll find on google. It was almost a mono-toned dish with the egg yolk being the only color showing item. The taste was below average with no distinct flavors at all. A friend ordered Stir Fried Chicken, which came in brown gravy! After calling the waiter, he confirmed that it was indeed the stir fried dish. Who gives a dish called "Stir Fried" in gravy? Another friend ordered a sizzling fish item in which the fish was very sweet. I didn't mind it so much, but the menu didn't say anywhere that it'd be sweet and my friend eventually hated it. The rest of the items were okay. Again, a coconut based vegetarian Korean gravy ordered by another friend was the only good item served.
Menu Variety
The menu has a lot of stuff that looks good on paper. I won't say that for implementation though. Anyway, it's a lot of new stuff you'll find. Not the usual items you'd see in a pub's menu. However, one of my friends was in the moods for eating fish and there must have been a total of 3 items on the menu for fish.
Service
Waiters are friendly, though we had to call for the check two times. And we really wanted the check fast coz we were getting frustrated with every second that we spent there. You cannot expect great service here, because you can't hear a thing. The waiters have to shout in your ear, and you can't expect politeness when that happens.
Ambiance
Rio was saaaddd! There was one private party happening and a few other people. Nobody was dancing coz the DJ was playing awful music. The only time the place livened up was when the Bar Crawl guys and gals came in with all their glowing horns and arm bands.
The speakers were right above our table while there were no speakers in the dance area. Which means that the speakers had to be extra loud. It was irritating. And we couldn't move tables because the other side of the pub (probably more peaceful) was taken by the private party guys.
Value for money
Each horrible dish was about Rs. 250 - 300. One small Antiquity costed Rs. 150. Everything together, the place has pathetic value for money.
Location
It's off the JP road somewhere inside a residential area. Not worth it.
And in conclusion...
Don't ever go here. If there's no other place you can go to, go home. One of my friends was so pissed by the place that he wanted to volunteer with a guest review. So here goes:
"Sometimes, some places can really tick me off and this is one of them.
Rio’s is highly recommended for people hard of hearing. They might just love this place. For those with normal hearing ability this place can be a pain. The sound is jarringly loud and ugly and very ear-damaging...maybe I should complain somewhere. There was sheer ignorance on the part of the management. Besides our own, two other tables also complained about the ugly sound but nothing changed.
I can’t believe that this place got recently renovated and they chose to put Pandam speaker in a club. That’s stupid! Pandam is known for making PA systems (Public Announcement systems) that are used for rallies and marriages and other outdoor stuff. NOT IN CLUBS. Especially, when the DJ’s playing Trance and Electro (while calling it House) the shrill mid-tones of the synth will penetrate your brain on these speakers.
Besides that the interiors give a tacky and incomplete, a 90s feel to the place. Not so great seating and unclear menu and okay food."
Oh and that’s my friend trying to avoid the loud music using his earphones!
