Food
I went to Wazwaan with very high expectations after reading a lot of good reviews on burrp. The food was simply not up to the mark. To start with, we ordered for chicken pudina kabab which seemed like a malai kabab with some green color on it. There was hardly any flavor of mint in it. This was followed by an equally tasteless prawns fry. No flavors at all. Only thing they got right in this dish was the crispness of the batter.

For main course, we moved on to mutton dopyaaza and baghdadi butter rotis. The mutton dopyaaza's quantity was so little, I could've finished it all myself. The taste was average. My local restaurant, Peninsula at Mahakali, makes better dopyaazas. The mutton was hard and there were more bones than meat. My friend who I took along was probably just short of cursing me for taking him there. The rotis came to us plain instead of butter. When we complained, the same rotis were taken back to the kitchen, layered with a measly portion of butter and brought back. My now irritated friend ended up asking the waiter sarcastically, "Butter khatam ho gaya kya?" (Are you out of butter?).

With the small gravy quantity, half my roti was still remaining while the mutton got over. We had to decide between the biryani and pulao. Now my friend is very picky about his biryani and hates it when they serve tava made biryanis instead of the dum or handi cooked ones. We asked and they confirmed that it was a tava biryani here. We ordered for a pulao instead. The pulao was sad. It smelled like fried rice. There was no masala at all (I would have liked some star anise, pepper or similar spices), the chicken pieces were dry and the rice was not even as long as a pulao should have. The raita that we ordered with it was a delight, though. Freshly cut salad in good curd. In fact, the onions on the table were also fresh and finely chopped. Looks like salad is their specialty!

To end it all, we had caramel custard for desserts. I couldn't taste any caramel. Go to Cafe Arfa at Jogeshwari for good caramel custard.

Oh and by the way, this place does not serve alcohol.

Menu variety
They have tried to put the whole world in the menu, but they probably never thought through on how they'd cook the items.
Us: Do you have any starters in mutton that would not have kheema. We want botis.
Waiter: Biryani.
Us: STARTERS!
Waiter: No.
Us: Do you have liver?
Waiter: No.
Us: What's this Chicken Sholay Angaarey (or something like that it was)
Waiter: Err. Try the pudina kabab.

We realized that only regular tikkas and kababs are available here. Anything more creative on the menu was just put there for the menu to look fat. Hmpf!

Service
Horrible! The first young waiter knew nothing. He couldn't even recommend Wazwaan specials to us. So we asked him to call someone who could suggest something. He called a senior waiter, who also didn't have anything much to add! He even suggested biryani two times when we asked for something in starters (in case you're curious, the first time was for mutton and the second time was for prawns)!! The senior waiter even asked us if we wanted our bill the moment he got us our dessert! We had to ask him to let us finish first! Both were nice guys with no understanding of good service, so it's not really their fault. I should give them points for their honestly at least. When we asked the senior waiter if we should go for the caramel custard or gaajar ka halwa, he suggested we go for the former because it is prepared everyday and is a fast selling item. He was trying to indicate that the gaajar ka halwa might not be that fresh. But somebody teach this restaurant some service!!

Ambiance
What a confused ambiance! Firstly, this restaurant has a ground floor (doesn't looke very family types) and a first floor (family area). The ground floor has no AC and very bad crowd. The first floor is shared with a dental clinic (I kid you not!). Considering a Kashmiri name, you'd expect at least a Kashmiri ambiance (since the food was definitely not Kashmiri). But what you find is this:
  • Some lamps that are a little Arabian looking.
  • European awnings on the ceiling (whattt!?!?!), almost like instead of an artificial ceiling.
  • Egyptian paintings on the wall (again, whattttt!?!?!)
I was thoroughly confused with what they had tried to do with the place. The tables and chairs are very outdoorsy cafe-like. Nothing reminds you of Kashmir.

Value for money
For all the above, the bill came to Rs. 425. Very reasonable. For average food to eat when you're hungry, this place can give you the goods. Also, they accept Ticket Restaurant and Sodexho food coupons, so I didn't have to take out a single rupee from my pocket :D

Location
It's in some corner of Marol. If it wasn't for my friend, I wouldn't have been able to find it alone. Let me try and give directions. Suppose you are at J.B. Nagar, you go towards Marol on the Andheri Kurla Road and take a left at Marol Maroshi bus depot (there's a sign on the Andheri Kurla Road that tells you to take a left for Marol). After the left, you have to go straight until you have two options - straight or right. You take right. The road goes straight and takes a natural curve to the left, after which there's a left turn. You will cross a restaurant called Silver Finch on the right. After 50 meters, you will see Wazwaan to the right.

I told you it was confusing!

And in conclusion...
I wouldn't go there again. I suggest you skip it.
