5 Spice
Burrp pages
Place: I went to the one at Sakinaka
Three old friends were catching up after a long time. One of them, now a wife and a mother. The other two still confused in life! We headed to 5 Spice to catch up on what was happening in our lives.
Debarati, Shubhra, Trisha and me
Food
We started with some Crispy Veg and Shinsho Chicken. For a change, I actually liked the veggie dish more than the chicken! The Shinsho chicken was also good though, with soya base and crunchy peanuts interspersed. For the main course, we ordered for some Veg Hakka Noodles with some Chicken dish sautéed with spring onions, garlic and peppers, cooked in red sauce. The food was good, but not mind blowing. 5 spice is anyway more popular for its quantity rather than quality. One plate of rice here can easily be shared between 3 people! And 3 very hungry people! 1=3 @ 5 Spice!
The highlight of dinner, however, was the Rocky Road dessert - it's a huge scoop of chocolate ice cream, with chocolate cake and bits and pieces of chocolates and nuts. True sin, guys, the truest sin you'd ever know!
Menu variety
They offer a lot of choice in dishes to choose from. There are a lot of creative sounding names and recipes. My only problem...I didn't see too much shitake in there!
Service
At first, the service would seem average. You do have to fight for catching the waiter's attention. But thanks to a different perspective on the table - that of a mother's - my opinion (and horizon) was to change to a larger degree! She had reached before us and the restaurant didn't have a high chair or even a high pillow for the kid. Shouldn't all restaurants have these? Or are you supposed to simply not bring your children here?
Ambiance
When I walk into the Saki Naka 5 Spice, the only thing my eyes see are chairs and tables. My eyes don't catch anything pretty or even weird. It's like an assembly line of chairs and tables and couches. There's absolutely nothing wrong or unappealing about the place, but the mundaneness just makes it kinda...what can I say........boring!
Value for money
Ohhhhhh....with the quantities they serve here, the VFM is as high as the sky! The only reason it doesn't get a 10/10 is because the food can be better tasting (like Mainland China's maybe?). But well, you can't have it all, can you?
Location
If you work at Saki Naka, this is very convenient if you're a group and wanting to eat inexpensive Chinese.
And in conclusion...
Decent Chinese in laaarrrrge portions. Multiple-time visit place!
